The Story of the K6 British Telephone Box

In the Brooks Estate Carriage House sits an interesting artifact: a bright red K6 British telephone box. Thanks to a grant from the Medford Arts Council, this telephone box will soon be more publicly enjoyed at Arts Collaborative Medford (ACM).

ACM will clean and restore the telephone box, then install in it a vintage telephone set which will serve as a listening interface for a rotating set of audio installations by local creators. Listeners will be able to use the telephone dial pad to select different audio options, with the keypad repurposed to function as a controller for a tablet or small computer installed inside the booth, and the receiver serving as the speaker.

The Medford-Brooks Estate Land Trust will donate the telephone box to ACM for this project, and we look forward to it being loved and used by the Medford community!
